You need to give us a bit more to go on. what do you want to do with the pics? print them? will you need a printer? is accurate color important to you in the prints? you'll need to calibrate everything.
Do you just want to look at them on your computer? do you want to manipulate them? you can use gimp or you can buy other software.
1 grand can buy a lot of camera, but not so much camera, lenses, software, peripherals.
