You guys are living in a dream world. They won't spend a single day in jail. Here's why:
1) Virginia jury votes to convict and, subsequently, to apply the death penalty.
2) Lawyers for both defendants appeal to Virginia Court of Appeals;
2a) ... meanwhile, ACLU files summary motion to dismiss all charges against Malvo and Muhammad; claims that search of the vehicle was invalid- search warrant for car covered only the passenger compartment, and that police should have obtained a separate warrant for the trunk.
3) Fourth Federal Circuit in Richmond agrees to hear appeal. Rules that Malvo and Muhammad's civil rights were violated by the illegal search, and that the fruits of that search are inadmissable as evidence. Overturns original convictions and orders Malvo and Muhammad released.
3a) Under double jeopardy rule, Malvo and Muhammad cannot be retried in Virginia.
4) Peoples Republic of Maryland declines to prosecute after amicus curiae brief filed by NAACP accuses the State of racial bias, because a study by Amnesty International shows that the State only prosecutes serial snipers with holes cut in trunks of Chevrolets when the suspects are African-American.
5) Muhammad and Malvo file multi-million dollar lawsuit against the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the Montgomery County Police Department and General Motors.
6) Muhammad appears on Oprah; Dr. Phil grants blanket absolution.
6a) Malvo signs multi-year endorsement contract, doing commercials with Missy Elliot for the Gap.
