So, when I'm not watching the Casey Anthony Trial, crocheting, or thumping on the bodhran, what am I doing?

Sometimes, not a lot.

There is one other thing I have been doing, though.

Walking.

There is a lovely park next to my apt, that has a walking path that connects to another, much bigger walking path.

So, I put on my mp3 player, and start trudging. Usually I trudge along listening to The Making of the Atomic Bomb. That's the book with the 90-minute long segments that I need to have the mp3 player remember it's place for me to find truly enjoyable.

I have usually been doing about a mile, mile and a half. I surprised myself last week by discovering that I'd walked 2.14 miles (according to Jeeves, my exercise encourager).

So, I was chattering with one of my girlfriends who lives nearby about this. Invited her along.

That was the stupid part.

Why was that stupid?

Because, rather than my usual wander around the park, we went further.

And missed a turn somewhere maybe.

We were following this trail and it just kept going and going ...

At one point we were going up this hill and I say, "If I see the big road, I will be quite vexed."

Let me tell you, I was more than merely vexed. I was all the way to perturbed, because what I saw at the crest of the hill was a construction site that was not appreciably near where my friend parked her car.

At the end, Jeeves informed me that I had walked 3.7 stinkin' miles.

If I hadn't accepted the ride back to my door, it would have been FOUR.
