I took down a small widow maker one time. It was basically a pole with one limb leaning out. Not too huge. Maybe 8 inches in diameter at the trunk. As I was cutting it, the vibrations made the limb break off, and it landed on a nearby roof. The vertical part shuddered when the limb came off, and it just sort of collapsed and fell straight down right next to me. Just missed me. Nobody got hurt and the roof wasn't even damaged. It scared me though and I'm MUCH more careful when I try to do anything with a dead tree, which is rare. I was young and stupid.
