It so happens I know this from a family anecdote. Because he was part of the army of occupation and served as a guard at the Nuremburg Trials my dad didn't return home from WW2 until 1946.
That was the first time post-war that many of the population celebrated November 5th, Guy Fawkes night, largely because the makings of fireworks weren't available and blackout regulations actually stayed in force until late in 1945. My mother later related to her sister that after a pint of bitter and a night of bonfires and fireworks my dad had 'gone off like a rocket'
