Gah! I saw something about Interactive Fiction Engines just the other day. I could swear it was on Slashdot, but I can't find it now. Anyone else remember seeing this? Not sure it's what you're looking for, Slang, but it might serve a purpose.
Come to think of it, IF would be a really cool way to test students after training. Load it up, tell them that if they can beat the game, they pass.
