I've heard it's poorly written and repetitive. It could do with editing down to a third of the length. Apparently there are three pages spent by the herione deciding whether to wear her hair in a ponytail or not. And other similar examples I haven't committed to memory.
I'll read it in September, when my colleagues have finished it. Can't say I'm frustrated by the wait
And yes, slash can be hetero. The slash is just to separate the names of the protagonists. I find the M/M pairings much more exciting though. Some of the fanfic I have read
for free online has been so good I struggle to remember it's not actually canon. For example we know very little about Captain John Hart in Torchwood, but he has an extensive back-history in slash... Hmmm, wonder why that is?
