Spent 24 hours this past weekend in the Niagara region of Ontario ... wine country and tons of historical stuff. The War of 1812, earlier settlers and all that. Found an Irish shop with cable-knit sweaters from Ireland ... yes, I can/could knit one, and will soon, but for now I bought one in the MOST beautiful shades of green ... and had a cream scone in their tea room. A real cream scone with clotted cream and sliced strawberries and a smear of jam on an absolutely divine scone (it was better than any I've made, and ... don't know how to say this, but that's saying something).

And later, found a bakery with Scotch pies, Forfar Bridies, Cornish Pasties, and real butter tarts. The Scotch pies were not up to my great-grandmother's standard, but the Cornish Pasty was. And the butter tart ... hm. I'll have to revise my recipe. Notes to follow.
