ETA: If you've never heard this thing fire, YouTube the A-10 Warthog. There is literally no other sound like it on Earth.

Unless it'd be the world's largest vibrator on the fritz.
Not so, only the firing barrel, located at the 9 o'clock position is directly in line with the centerline of the aircraft, with the rest of the gun moved slightly to the 3 o'clock postion accordingly.

The recoil of the gun *does* affect the momentum of the plane. Even more interestingly, during the development of the gun/plane/weapon system, the gun killed the engines of the plane. The smoke from the gun, being nearly oxygen free, caused the engines to flameout. Adjustments to the engine were made, including a self-sustaining combustion system which is activated when the gun is fired to keep them running.

Worth reading. What an impressive weapon in my **favorite** warplane.
