In the olden days, like the early 2000s, Fox News was pretty much hard news during the day, only a tad more righty than CNN. The conservative talking point aspect of the channel switched on hard at night with Papa O'Reilly. But during the day it was reasonable. And you could get information there you couldn't find elsewhere. I think with "Fox and Friends" getting shallower (as shallow as can be, as morning television generally is) and more righty, the daytime news also went downhill... not sure about the timeframe though

In those years I used to watch cable news all the time, and when I thought Fox was being righty I would switch to CNN. When CNN was being lefty I would switch back to Fox. Many times I would find them giving the same story with a similar slant, and then I realized, oh it's really my brain doing a lot of this; if I look for a slant I can always find it.
