I've never had any other experience in my life that comes as close to "ESP" or a "direct mind link" as being on stage, feeling a good groove, and you look in the eyes of your band mate, and he looks in yours, and you both know that you're feeling the same thing, and it's pure magic.
It sounds sexual, and it is similar to that moment when you and your lover can't tell where one person's body ends and the other beings.
But with music, it is somehow different. Maybe more intellectual, maybe... less animal. A mind link of the "thinking" part of your brain.
I'm not a very "social" person, but I count quality over quantity in personal interactions. In this regard, nothing is of a higher caliber than playing music with a group of people. And the audience is a part of this equation as well. They don't have to have an instrument in their hands to be a part of this. I'm sure this--the interaction with the audience--is why people get "addicted" to being a performer.
