That has, in my experience, been true for a long time. I remember in looking for jobs, I was turned down because I didn't have 2 years experience with something like "version blah-blah of so-and-so's particular C compiler."
I have, therefore, made a point of NOT hiring people based on their experience with the particular tools that we are using, but rather their ability to think and learn.
