I saw a video awhile back of a big ass navy ship when the anchor handler caught fire then fed chain all the way out and lost it.
It dawned on me watching this video, that brake on the anchor chair not only has to control the chain feeding out, it has to hold the ship when the wind is making it pull against the anchor. DUH.
