I've been wondering what the term actually means as well.
Mind you, by the time a new word or phrase has come to my attention, it has usually acquired the tag [
archaic] in the dictionary.
Anyway, I think that I can now safely dismiss the possibility of Virtual Forks being a town in North Dakota.
