It's tough to defeat modern copy protections. As soon as a new protection comes out, there is a short lag, then a corresponding tech solution.

I use AcidRip, which MAY be available for Windows. It defeats most DRM schemes. Not all. DVD Decrypter 4.0 works for a majority of the tough cases. Nothing works for all situations.

VLC will work for old schemes only, but I find the interface a bit kludgy. Only way to know is to try it.
