The point about driving "in the middle" is good in theory, however it falls apart when examined. If you are traveling the same speed as the car in front of you at a safe distance, and the car behind you wants to go faster and is tailgating you, you can only get "in the middle" by speeding up to get away from the car behind you. But that will close the safe gap you had in front of you, so now you are the tailgater who has to brake hard all the time when there is a slowdown. Plus the driver behind you is a tailgater themselves, so they aren't going to let you increase the gap behind your car. They will close it. The only power against traffic you have as a driver is to follow the car in front of you at a safe distance and match its speed. Better yet, try to dampen the stop and go bullshit they are pulling by leaving a large enough gap in front of you that you never have to slam on your brakes.

Also, automated cars will not get rid of traffic lights because there are still pedestrians who need to cross the street.

I agree with the video that once traffic is heavy in all lanes, it's the abrupt lane changers who turn it into stop and go traffic instead of heavy flowing traffic.
