I Saw Lincoln Shot

I remember seeing this guy on TV, I think it was Gary Moore's "I've Got A Secret" show.

The Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves in the confederate states but not the union states. That was left to the states to do.
So word came of Lee’s surrender this guy's father's boss who owned 150 slaves in MD went to Washington to find out where he stood.

Juneteenth was when the last of the slaves in the south were freed, but the last of the slaves in the north weren’t freed until December.

He was 5, first time away from home, first theater play. I’ll bet he’d take the shooting in stride if everyone around him, not only
in the theater but in DC, weren't losing their shit over this. But he picked up on the panic and it gave him nightmares.
