That's precisely why I'm having a problem convincing myself that I want to see this movie. At least the people putting together
Star Trek Phase II (used to be
Star Trek: New Voyages, has permission from both Paramount and Majel Roddenberry) went to the extra effort to get the look and the FX correct. They also have some of the original screenwriters and ST novel authors contributing scripts, along with regular appearances by actors from the original series.
It occurs to me that I'm probably not the first person to mention this. (EDIT: Actually, I am. Ha.)
