I'm always fascinated by advertising during the Big One, WW II, where they herald their contribution to the war effort and remind you to remember them after the war. There was one by Cadillac telling how their transmissions are used in tanks, so when you buy a Caddy after the war you won't have to worry about your battle tested trans.
Cheerios practically won the war all by itself. Now with corn and rye added for a flavor wallop... not because of an oat shortage for civilian use.
