That's a pre Big One, WW II, item, before plastic became ubiquitous.

I don't know if they refilled that bottle of they bought it in bottes like that and swapped them out.
At Boeing we had Sulfuric and Hydrochloric in stainless steel drums that looked just like beer kegs. A tapper and an evil mind could really hurt.
