The Snow Eating Fog

This morning we have 6 to 8 inches of snow on the ground. Unfortunately it is disolving into the fog. Rain is on the horizon so Kwanza ain't looking too white.

Violent rain storms earlier this morning ate most of our snow, so no white Kwanzaa in Detroit, either

(nice frog!)

Check the snow for signs of little cat feet.

It never snows in Coastal Georgia, but Kwanza is everywhere. Nothing like made up holidays to brighten the season.

Yea, but the only ones I care about are the ones that give me paid days off from work.

Actually, they are all made up holidays. Some just came along later than others.

From wikipedia
The word Christmas probably didn't come around until the 11th century, although the celebration of Christ's birth is possibly from 200 AD. The modern Christmas, with Santa Claus, probably dates closer to mid-1800's. The popularity and significance of Hanukkah, which actually dates back to the post-battle celebration about 200 B.C.E., came shortly after.

Whether you are using the term "Black" or "African American", you are referring to a group of immigrants who are distinct from all others since they were brought here as slaves. As such, in most cases they were not allowed to keep their cultures. This means that now they must either try to reacquire a culture or invent one. reacquiring a culture is difficult, since one would need to know a lot about their ancestors. Kwanzaa is an attempt to build a new culture.

Essentially it's another solstice holiday wrapped up with cultural or historical trappings. Everyone deserves one and everyone gets one. The only people who had a problem with this were a few Texaco executives.

ROBERT ULRICH: (tape comments as shown on screen) You can't just have we and them. You can't just have black jellybeans and other jellybeans. It doesn't work.
RICHARD LUNDWALL: (tape comments as shown on screen) Yeah. But they're perpetuating the black jellybeans.
CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: There were also what appeared to be racist remarks about Texaco employees who celebrate Kwanza, an African-American holiday.
ROBERT ULRICH: (tape comments as shown on screen) I'm still having trouble with Hanukkah. Now we have Kwanza--F--ing niggers, they have s-----d all over us with this.

And I didn't think it said Snow Eating Frog, but if I ever join another forum (but why would I? Everything I want is here?) then that will be my username.
