Yep. But mine was a "technically naive reporter" who was only writing what he heard "some politician say."

Exactly. And that was the point before the 'big meltdown'. I don't care if George Jr says it is so. His claim has no validity until someone with a patriotic attitude says it with believable reasons. If your reporter understood what he was writing, he probably would have noted how significantly advanced that new system is. He did not - just another reason that his credibility is lower. Happy Monkey's post is completely different. It provides significant details and comes from a source that demonstrates credibility on this topic. Happy Monkey's citation and Clodfobble's are almost 100% different even though they say same. Credibility is a major factor here.

Do you use Listerine? Are you also healthy because you have magnets in your shoes? If not, then why would you blindly assume that reporter got one detail right - especially when the only word could have been a typo? How would we know it was not a typo in Happy Monkey's citation? Because other information confirmed the reporter knew what RFID was and knew what he was reporting. Both citations have night and day significance.

Something that most people don't take into consideration, something I have witness first-hand (I worked at Hughes Aerospace cataloging software and hardware after the GM take-over and had some clearance and seen CRAZY stuff).
Public tech is between 5-20 years behind what is actually available in the lab/government.

Yeah, tw, Clodfobble had no clue if it was or wasn't RFID, except for the fact that SHE WAS RIGHT THAT IT WAS.
Dumbass. Admit you made a mistake and back off. You were WRONG, tw.

Now this from EPIC:

EPIC Warns Federal Agencies About RFID in US Travel Cards
In comments (pdf) to the State Department and Homeland Security, EPIC recommended against the use of "long-range" RFID technology (which transmits personal data to remote tracking devices) in the proposed "PASS card" for travel between the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. EPIC explained that the tracking technology would jeopardize the privacy and security of US travelers. Earlier this year, Homeland Security abandoned (pdf) a similar proposal for US-VISIT travel documents, following comments from EPIC (pdf) and the Government Accountability Office (pdf). See EPIC's pages on RFID and US-VISIT. (Aug. 1)

Thats just great - for those who have nothing to hide, but the potential for abuse is too great.

"E-ZPass is an E-ZPass to go directly to divorce court, because it's an easy way to show you took the off-ramp to adultery," said Jacalyn Barnett, a New York divorce lawyer who has used E-ZPass records a few times.
Wow. I bet she spent all morning thinking up that clever quip.

She's a lawyer, that kind of quip just naturally slithers off her tongue.
