A very long time ago I was playing baseball in gym class and this kid runs into me. I hit the ground screaming, and the gym teacher/coach told me to run it off. It turned out I had a fractured kneecap.

Joint injuries are tough to for anyone to diagnose. The point is that you ended up doing the right thing. If there was no blood, it was reasonable to wait and see if the pain went away. At least you didn't try to have him run laps.
