The Katskhi Pillar

In the Seventh Century, monks built a monastery on the top of a natural stone pillar outside of Chiatura, Georgia. It was used by the Stylites — Christian ascetics who lived on top of pillars to express their devotion. That sect is now extinct, but the monastery is still there. Visitors get to the top by climbing a 130 foot ladder.

That is really neat. Let's hope it avoids the ugly trend of destroying interesting religious sites.

I do not need to climb to 130 feet to express devotion.
I am more likely to express my lunch.

Cool find though.

Both were my first thoughts too...

Those clowns in Timbuktu are "bumming my stone."

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

"WILD GEESE"

Someone posted that in a poetry thread and I fell in love with it immediately.
Thanks for the reminder, I'll carry it with me on my way into work today.
