1/22/2004: Massive tumor removed

I was kind of resolved NOT to make this an IotD - but it seems like it's made too much news without actually it being seen, so there's a need, you know.

This woman's tumor outweighed her; at 175 pounds, it was not the largest tumor on record, but it's a whopper nonetheless. It took them 10 hours to remove it, but the patient survived and is recovering.

The question every man fears:

'Honey, does this tumor make my ass look big?'

Seriously, this thing didn't develop overnight. Don't you think that when it grew to about 50 pounds or so somebody would have figured out there was a problem?

I mean, my family has the infamous Irish refusal to go to doctors in general, and a view of hospitals as death factories specifically...but GODDAMN.

How do they go about removing it, precisely? Do they make an incision and take it out through that, or do they just lop it all off? I ask because this lady's either going to have this giant flap of skin hanging off her back, or need some serious fucking skin grafts depending on which method.

Symantics perhaps but I think what they actually did was remove a person from a tumor

You know, with a more flattering haircut, she really wouldn't look that bad. Except, of course, for that GIANT POTATO on her ass.

I think the deal was that the operation was very expensive, and it took them quite a long time to save up the money for it...

... wow.. the human body is an incredible thing.

Actually, the linked article says that she couldn't afford the operation. The Discovery Channel paid for it in exchange for film rights.

"The Discovery Channel paid for it in exchange for film rights."

Oh my God! Now there will be a special about it? How about an HBO movie? Should I even ask what the bandages at the bottom of the tumor are for?

The picture is really horrible to look at but it looks so unreal that it softens the effect a little. I almost thought it was Photoshoped or something. Perhaps someone did a pattern stamp of the Giant Cheeto and just cloned it on her rear end!

I think you've been spending too much time at the computer if you start spelling semantics like that...

Reminds me of a joke

A man with a frog on his head goes to the doctor. The doctor asks, "How did this happen?". The frog replies, "It all started with a furuncle on my ass."
