The Whatjimacallit....

The TV remote control thingy -what's it called in your family?

We have an array of plonkers for the various bits of audio/visual entertainment equipment.

We have three remotes--"the remote," "the MythTV remote," and "the DVD remote."

The gray one.
The black one.

We have the DVD Remote, the Tivo Remote, and the Big Remote (multi-function that works everything). On a good day two of them can be found; it's usually just one.

We fondly refer to ours as "the remote."

I have sole control of the one that operates the DVD/VCR, because it is too confusing for my mother. The Digital Cable remote is sometimes beyond her in complexity, but at least she's able to find the Food Network.

I thought they were always called "zappers"? My mum has two (Frank and Moon Unit :p ). We have ... er ... lots. One for the digibox (a tivo type thingie), one for the DVD, one for the video, and two for the TV. The digibox one does work the TV, but doesn't activate the AV channel where the DVD signal is found, so we keep one TV zapper for the AV button, and the other because I prefer the shape of it. We know where they all are, they're all on the floor with a telephone or two . Yes, it's probably time to rationalise things a little ...

The fat controller. Oh and the the dvd remote (usually prefaced by curses as it goes missing more often).

As I'm only asking the cats where it is, it doesn't really matter what I call it, but my Mum used to call the remote "the controls" and it was only a small step from there to the Thomas the Tank Engine name.

"The remote" (which controls the stereo, VCR, and TV) and "the dvd remote". The damn dvd remote uses signals that the programmable remote can't replicate even in learning mode, so we have to have two remotes. This annoys me, but with regular therapy and medication, I'm able to deal with it.
