I hate the ones that try to sell toothpaste as self-empowerment and people power.

I don't hate this commercial, and I really didn't feel like starting a thread called "Commercials You are Actually Pretty Indifferent About, but Made You Notice Something Funny About Them."

There is an advertising push on right now for the KFC Pot Pie. One of these commercials is 70s retro, with a couple of cool dudes getting some pot pies.

They are in a cool car.

The shot is through the front windshield. You can see that there is a chain with a pendant hanging off the rear view mirror.

If you look at it from the bottom up, it appears to read "pnis."

I laughed and laughed at the original version of the Verizon commercial with the mother and daughter crying about the daughter moving away. My mom said she hated it.

Well, saw it the other night and the bastards cleaned up the audio and took away the subtitles. Dumbasses, that was what made it funny. Now I hate it too.

I saw that too! They had been running the funny one with the online Colbert Report episodes, and then just this morning I saw they changed it. Why in the world would they do that?

I want to believe it's some weird marketing gimmick, where the fact that they changed it subtly means we'll all notice, and talk about it with our friends. I mean, the shots and costuming and makeup were exactly the same, the two versions had to have been shot at the same time.

I heard people hated it. Talked to mom tonight about the commercial she hated. She hadn't noticed the subtitles (what? Then I remembered they usually have closed captioning turned on) But did notice you could make out what they're saying in the later version.

When I asked her last week what she didn't like about she said "the blubbering" hahaha! That's my mama.

The marketing ploy...love that take on it and it is so true. I discussed it with my mom and posted about it!

Hate this one. It's from a couple of years ago...

Talk about creating a problem in order to sell the solution:

I want to get into the business of writing radio commercials. They don't have to make sense, they don't have to be grammatically correct, and they don't need to include correct pronunciations.

"Did you know that some fruits are really vegetables, and some vegetables are really fruit?" Um, wrong. Maybe some foods we think of as vegetables are really fruit, and some foods we think of as fruit are really vegetables, but I assure you...fruits are really fruit and vegetables are really vegetables. Really. Totally. (I can't find any fruit or veggie smiley so I'll just use that potato chip one.)

I have a couple more to add but I have to remember what they are.

Is this appro pro ? I'm curious about your sig-line:

"Wages" is plural, but "death" seems singular both in grammar and reality

I don't know. Ask Paula Poundstone.

Do you have anything else to add to the conversation, or do you plan to stick to the plan: ignore her until we find things to criticize?

I'm of the paranoid persuasion. Please to excuse me.

Anyway, another one I think I've mentioned before (radio commercial) is "You can save up to 3 to 8 hundred dollars!" Which is it? 300 dollars? 457 dollars? 800 dollars? What can you save 'up to'?
