Quick Question:

It's never a quick question. That's a preamble to a convoluted story that starts with, "What had happened was" and ends sometimes with no actual question being asked.

Hey, Quick Question: If I have a customer with a 633 score, and their dad signs and he's a 730, can I get 84 months on a 2011 Quest and how much is a warranty and can the insurance be in dad's name and and and

....and I might need a little winter vacation here soon....

In 84 months that car will be 11 years old.

Not only no, but HELL no.

I took a 72 month loan on my 2013 Avalanche, to get the 4% interest. I will have it paid off in 48, tops. I make at least one extra payment every month on the principle, sometimes more. It leaves me with less in my pocket, but the cost of the car goes down every time I do that and I am that much closer to the title in my hot little hands.

And once I have the title, I will be essentially debt-free, having no current debts other than a very small credit card payment that covers my netflix and such minor charges and is paid off in full monthly. I dream of having no debt.

From then on, cash for all but the most major emergency purchases. If I am gonna restart my life, I might as well not start off with a mountain of bills.

I was just ranting really. I haven't done an 84 monther in a year or more. Mostly 72. Some banks give you 75 months at the same rate. Helps get that warranty into the budget.

I make more reserve on longer loans, so I occasionally offer a lower rate than 60 to entice folks into adding goodies.

In 2015 Americans bought 17,470,659 new cars and trucks, 29% of them were leased. No wonder Jim is frazzled.

It's always the person who ignores the queue who says, "Can I just ask a quick question?"
Yes, you can sweetheart. But I was here first, I'm buying a single can of fizzy pop/ one way ticket/ a single stamp/ whatever, I have waited my turn and I have approximately the right money in my sweaty little mitt, or quite possibly the exact money, as I've been waiting long enough to count it out.

I don't care how bloody quick your question is, it is an imposition. Learn to queue. Are you even really English?!

As you were...

Didn't most auto loans used to be 36months, with 48 being the outlier?

Did you see the Seinfeld/Obama Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee episode? Obama was bragging that the Presidential limo has seat warmers in the rear. Seinfeld had to explain to him that all cars come with those now, and Obama seemed a bit surprised.

That's a good example of how Presidents lose touch with the real world. I heard a similar story about Dan Quayle being excited when he saw a scanner at the supermarket checkout upon leaving office.

But my point isn't about insulated Presidents. It's about how cars come with lots of bells and whistles now. Many of them are mandated, like airbags. But all those bells and whistles are not cheap.

Nor are those bells and whistles trouble free.
