sig changes

If you delete your signature in the User CP, your sigs in all previous posts by you will disappear.

I notice that the Cellar handles new signature changes a bit differently now.

Previously, new signature were applied to prior posts as well as new posts made after the change.

Now, if you introduce a new sig, it only applies to posts made after the change of signature.

It didn't used to be that way.

I'm guessing that it works like this:

(a) if you modify your sig, it replaces all previous signatures with the new information;

but

(b) if you empty the sig form and save the change to empty, subsequent entries in the sig form only appear in new posts;

or

(c) it's a bug;

or

(d) i'm losing my mind.

OK, just tested it as you said.

I'm going with c or d.

I'll guess that the behavior changed as we've upgraded versions - although we haven't done that in a while.

Hint: there is a "showsignatures" column in the table of posts, and sigs are saved in the user table, not the posts table. So sigs should follow the user, not the posts.

I just erased sig and saved and then added a new sig as below.

The sig applies to new posts, and some of the very recent posts, like this:

http://cellar.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1549

but not to the older posts, like this:

http://cellar.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1511

which isn't that old, because it was new to the Quality Images thread. This meow image did have a sig originally, but iit has not had any sig since the time when I recently cleared, saved and set a new sig. I think that goes for all my older posts which are now without signatures. Who cares? Not me really ... I mean really, not me.

So, I'd say it's (c) unless you guys are seeing my sig in the linked meow thread above.

In which case, it's definitely (d).

I can live with it, either way.

I just thought the Toad lived on bugs, so I should let him know where to find them.

The bug appears to affect only a few of my posts ... not all the older posts. So it is (d) after all.
