WTF Song Lyrics.

Ok....What in the hell does prince mean?!?

Song: Kiss

Lyric: You don't have to watch "Dynasty" to have an attitude.

It screws me up every time I happen to hear it.

What?!?

YOu don't have to watch Dynasty to pretend you're rich and beautiful (and neurotic)?

That's my interpretation.

Well that's implying that Dynasty is watched, just so someone can act like that. That's the wtf part.

Like the same person couldn't have an attitude outside of watching Dynasty.

Proper response: Yes, I know I don't have to watch Dynasty to have my attitude, as I've been getting it from your momma.

What's the "pompetous of love"?

It's Steve Miller mis-hearing an earlier lyric by the Medallions... "puppetutes" a word coined by Vernon Green.

In 1954, Vernon Green of the Medallions wrote a song called "The Letter" in which he used the words "puppetutes of love", a combination of "puppets" and "prostitutes". A puppetute was a woman of your fantasies who would do anything you wanted.

"You are so beautiful...to me"
Translated: I don't care if everyone else thinks you're a butt-ugly skank

"God is watching us from a distance"
Translated: Because he doesn't want to get too close

The whole of Wonderwall by Oasis.

Especially
"I don't believe that anybody
Feels the way I do, about you now"

Apparently it's a love song.

But I always heard it as an old geezer singing to an ex-stripper when they were both in their 80s. Everyone adored her in her youth, but he was the only one left who was still overwhelmed.

Of course the double-ouch with that one in real life was that he left her for a model.

Which reminds me
"I love you best, when you say nothing at all"

Not jumping on a bandwagon here - the first time I heard that song I disliked it. I commented that it was basically saying, "Shut your trap and just let me look at you woman!"

Triple post. Sorry.

That line always sounded caustic to me. Like someone respected and admired by everyone, screwed up. Alternatively, and ironically, they are the only "one to save him"... after all...."they're his wonderwall" (main admirer). It fits in the context with the rest of the song, I actually get the song though. He is saying someone has disappointed everyone, bet he still digs them.

you know what I'm pissed off about?

ali explaining the mundane about "pompetous"...totally harshes my mellow.
I'll never listen to that song the same again. Though, the song remains the same....

My roomie freshman year hated Lionel Ritchie's Stuck on You, citing his non-committal namby pamby use of the word "guess" throughout, like he couldn't be sure.

I'm stuck on you
I've got this feeling down deep in my soul that I just can't lose
Guess I'm on my way
Needed a friend
And the way I feel now I guess I'll be with you 'til the end
Guess I'm on my way
I'm mighty glad you stayed
