July 25th, 2018: Mock Meat

The PETA drones, hipsters, and trend followers are becoming vegans, you’ll know who there are because they’ll tell you… repeatedly.
Can’t prove it but I suspect people like clodfobble who makes choices on real physiological demands of her family, are far and few between..
Have some fried chicken… yum yum.

Looks like chicken, tastes like chicken, but that ain’t chicken.
It’s a concoction of soybeans and a laundry list of other ingredients.

Since Buddhism and Taoism are dominant in the far east, and they espouse shunning meat, the restaurants in Chinatown
are up to speed, even though 80% of the vegan customers are white.
You know, capitalist running dogs.
It would appear that May Wah, in NYC Chinatown was, and remains, ahead of the curve.

Quote:
The Ngs work with a Taiwan-based manufacturing company called Chin Hsin Foods, which ensures that the mock meat they are getting is as good as it is back home. She has tried a few of the longstanding American brands of imitation meats, such as Morningstar Farms, but “the texture is a bit off,” Lily says. “The package looks good, but once you open it, it is just a lump.”

So it appears that May Wah is the place to go if you want to eschew meat, wonderful tasty meat, for this hipster trend. Mmm bacon.

OK, I'm going to be offline for awhile so argue among yourselves.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's don't bother with substitutes. They never satisfy. Quit trying to fool yourself and just eat a damn apple.

That said, I am curious about the "Impossible Burger". I did try the "Beyond Burger", and it had a really bad aftertaste.

We have a locally produced Walnut Burger from the Trempealeau Hotel that's very good. I have had veggie burgers that are quite good, but that stuff looks nasty.

To be fair, I can eat tofu if it isn't pretending to be meat.

We sell that. Also cholesterol free. Still waiting for the non-GMO label to appear on a bottle.... and now I think about it, I haven't seen organic water.

I've seen "artisanal water" on the shelf. I'm not exactly sure what that means. It was shipped from Norway. Right next to the water shipped from Fiji.

I've purchased a couple bottles of the water shipped from Fiji. I thought the bottles might be good to reuse when backpacking because they are square and won't roll away from you when you are tossing them around. I wound up using Smart water bottles instead because they fit in my backpack pockets better and there's an available water filter that mates perfectly with a Smart bottle.

Fiji water is different, though, because it's the only one with silicon--comes from the volcanic rock in the area--which crosses the blood-brain barrier and bonds with aluminum and removes it from the body. Ain't no point in me giving you my anecdotal evidence of what it does for autism, but here's a study showing that just 12 weeks of consumption improved the cognition of Alzheimer's patients, which has long been known to be connected to aluminum buildup in the brain.

Big market opportunity for someone to enrich an existing American mineral water with silicon, but until then, we're getting ours shipped from Fiji.
