My bet, as another 21 yo, they were studying anatomy. That does sound like a really cool place to explore certain anatomical parts on another individual. Not that I would do such a thing (especially now that I know it is deadly)

You can sort of feel your bodily O2 level going thin after you suck a complete lungful of helium, but no, it's not a suffocating sort of sensation, and it's faint.
