Black Caviar

I'm not into horse racing, but this is remarkable.

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news...-1226173861123

Black Caviar has just won her 15th consecutive race, this time at 33-to-1 on.

These odds were partly because only three other horses were entered in the race; but that was because the other trainers and owners have pretty much given up hoping to beat her.

Great name, and it fits the color.

ZG, a short loop out for continental drift...
Does Australia have a system of "claiming races" ?

I've never even been to a horse race, but I was completely impressed
when I first heard about how US claiming races are designed.

Now back to the OP

I have no idea what you are talking about. There's just this horse that keeps winning, eh?

Man, that's weird and complicated.

I've heard of owners getting in trouble for entering a top quality horse in a race that was too easy for it, but I've never heard of this.

Black Caviar is the bomb. I'm sick of hearing about it though since i have a husband who's a race fan and spends most Saturday arvo in front of sky racing with his comp on his lap. Luckily for him he's pretty good at the stats and all and usually comes out in front if not even. It's pretty rare that he doesn't win in the end though.

After twenty five races, and twenty five wins, Black Caviar has been retired. She's five and fit to breed. Her half-brother just sold for $5,000,000. I wonder how long that record will stand.

How, after winning 14 consecutive races, can the odds be 33 to 1?

33 to 1 odds, means it is extremely unlikely the horse will win.

With just 3 other horses in the race the odds for Black Caviar should've been something more like 1 to 1, unless the other horses were all Kentucky Derby winners or somesuch.

I don't understand this.

He was saying 'nevermind' to his own question. He realized it was a resurrected thread.

At the risk of flogging a retired horse ...

33 to 1 on.

Bet $33, if it wins, they give you $34.
Or bet $1, and get $1.03 if it wins.

OK, your wagering system is upside down too.

Of course. We are consistent.

And of course, the horses go around the track clockwise.

(Srsly, most horses will run at better odds: 4 to 1, 10 to 1, etc.)
