I darn socks. Yes, its true and I do have the pictures to prove it. Reduce, reuse, recycle. Thrift shops. Pawn shops. Borrow and trade. Hand me downs. Publicized elsewhere in the cellar are posts discussing my affinity for doing my own car maintenance. There's a certain pleasure in doing it myself, but there is a very definite economic benefit as well.

Buy in bulk. Example: Hershey's syrup. The 12 oz bottle is $2.79 and the 6 pound can is under six bucks. We learned the hard way that this doesn't apply to mayonnaise. Buy what's on sale: Hunt's spaghetti sauce occasionally goes on sale for $1/can. I get a bunch, then use them at my leisure.

Carpool.

Make my own stuff.

Around here is a store called Stupid Prices. They are kind of stupid, they sell **every**thing all mixed up. Clothes, electronics, some groceries, furniture, tools, notions, et-freakin-cetera. The prices are very very competitive. Recently replaced a dvd/vcr combo I killed (with fishtank water--please don't ask--sore subject) for $68 out the door. Panasonic, nice unit.

+I buy deer nuts instead of beer nuts. Beer nuts are $2.99, and deer nuts are usually under a buck.

My number one piece of money-saving advice: Don't have kids! From what I've seen, they can be a bit expensive.

I use to be cheap when I was broke. It is a natural event born out of the situation at hand. When I finally began to make good money I discovered that life is to short to drink cheap beer and smoke cheap cigars. Quality is more important. The money will go further in the long run, except in the case of beer and cigars.

Instead of getting the supreme burrito, just save the crumbley bits and spilled toppings from your hard tacos, then dump them into a regular burrito and you get free supreme-ness.

But seriously, join a vegetable co-op. Start one if necessary. The lowdown: a group of people pool their money, say $20 a piece, and get a bulk discount at the local farmer's market. We get a giant storage tub's worth of fruit and veggies for $20, every two weeks.

My wife will tell you that having a huge rack serves the same purpose.
