The Rock 64!

Hey, where is the whiney part where we cry about "our" band not going far enough?

I give the cellar huge respect for carrying Floyd to victory but there were travesties, minor injustices, heresies, and evils done great and small. Post your piss and moan here.

Talking Heads take out U2 and Rush. You people make me sick!

Floyd, the Beatles as good as they were tired me out. It is a problem with being born in '64, there was never a time in my life without Beatles. That said, the Rolling Stones would still be my #1 pick.

The Stones really could work up a crowd but they were such lousy musicians.

mmmmm...... most music is 'generational'....?

I was born in '50. so the beatles broke for me at age 13 (ideal teeny-bopper age). Flloyd at 15 (with Sid) but the more 'cerebeal' stuff (Dark Side et al) at early/mid 20's....

You were born '64, so Beatles to you like Pearl Carr & Teddy Johnson to me...
you're early teens in mid/ late 70's , so guess tale end of Glam/Punk might be your thing, or possibly New Romantics.....

...but then you spoil it all by the Stones......

Musical things never work out exactly to one's taste eh!

I'll call RS out... for not liking the Beatles because they were too commercial, and then settling on No Doubt for pure fandomhood. This makes no sense, therefore you must acquit.

I bought Rattle and Hum out of a discount bin recently, thinking "oh yeah, U2 was good, I should get this" It was like watching The Breakfast Club - no where NEAR as good as I remember. I kept fast forwarding to what I thought were good songs... eh, not so much.

I'm happy with how "my" bands did overall, actually I'm pretty shocked that GD made it to the finals.

I don't think that there can be any doubt that Floyd are the greatest........

name one other band that has actually inspired a whole new genre (Punk) against its own excesses.....

OTOH, name one other band that has gone from the simplicity of 'Please please me' to 'Sgt Pepper' and the 'White Album' in the same time?

Thank you for calling me out. Even my sister was surprised at my loving No Doubt.

At different stages in my life, I was obsessed with different things. When I was 16 yo in 1971, it was all about the instruments and musianship. Nothing less the Prog Rock mattered at all. Nothing I listened to played on the radio.

By the time 1980 hit, I was done with modern music. It all sucked. It could not compare with Dark Side of the Moon, Blondie, A Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Tales from Topographic Oceans. I mean, what was the point of listening to any new music when it all sucked to high heaven.

Fast Forward to 1998, when I decided that my IRL personality was really female living in a male body. Then, all I could listen to were Female-Fronted Rock Bands. During this period, my first love was Natlie Merchant with "Tiger Lily", quickly followed by Gwen Stefani and No Doubt with "Tragic Kingdom" (10x Platnum).

I first registered a Gwennie! personality on a forum in April 2000.

Female-fronted rock bands. Think about it. In the history of Rock there are only about 50 of them. We couldn't even field a Cellar-64 Top Female-Fronted Rock Bands.

.......RockSteady/Gwennie!

PS: I'm just a girl

Sorry, I just have to say that the Super Bowl Halftime music show by Gwen, No Doubt, and Sting doing "Message in a Bottle" was really great. It may indeed prove to be the last decent Super Bowl Halftime music show allowed by the NFL.

Led Zeppelin is unequalled in their transition from album to album through several different genres without sucking. they revolutionized management and touring, started their own label, and wrote songs that still make my nipples hard.

they did blues, rock, ballads, ragae, country, folk, sweeping classical-esque productions, boogie, fuckin name it.

and they did it well. and they partied like animals the whole time.

they are the absolute epitome of what a rock band is and should be. pirates. golden gods.

legends

Bullshit. Today, Natalie Merchant is the ONLY major artist that makes INDEPENDENT releases. Period.

Go Natalie!!!!!

Zep was always a RAII Bitch.

"Much to the anger of their recording label, No Doubt released a fan favorite 2nd album "Beacon Street Collections" recorded in their garage. The plan worked as Interscope Records finally relased Tragic Kingdom for 10x Platinum success.

No Doubt Anytime.
