What did you rediscover today?

(I don't think we've got one of these ...)

Yesterday (but it was today when I thought we should have a thread about it!) I rediscovered how to embroider French Knots. The theory seems unworkable, but in practice they're pretty neat!

Limey, you're so good at the needle arts it becomes ho hum to you, just another job you did well. Then you discover, or in this case rediscover, something different, the excitement of something exotic, something French, energizes your inner artist bringing the pleasure of creativity back into play. The feedback of dopamine to the Prefrontal Cortex as a response to creativity causes the phenomenon scientists call 'mo be betta', when the search for more dopamine results in applying creativity to other endeavors such as music, cooking, and relationships. Things like household routine do give some feedback but the greatest dopamine pump has always been creativity in relationships with others. Primarily creativity with anyone who happens to be conveniently available, around the house, in situ, and horny.

I can't say that household routines have ever given me that sort of feedback (apart from that one time when I was sitting on the washing machine during the spin cycle ...) .

Perhaps riding around Wal-Mart on electric buggy was a strenuous workout. Maybe temperature in room has an effect on scales.????

I rediscovered the flow state last night at fencing. I'm just starting to work out the triggers for this, it is truly amazing.

Excellent, Griff, to be able to go directly to your groove will be wonderful.

I don't really understand what all that means, but it sounds good.

Smooth, in the zone, almost automatic pilot, reacting properly after the brain processes what the eyes are seeing, because waiting for the brain to then translate it into rational thought, and make a decision, it's too late.

I've experienced it while writing computer code for a custom database,
and it is a very enjoyable thing.

But in the physical world the closest I can image is while driving a car,
and being involved in deep thought or conversation, and
not realizing that how far we've gone on "automatic".

Doing that while fencing is almost "inconceivable"!

Good on you, Griff

I just pictured Griff, a la Keanu Reeves, muttering to himself, "I know fencing."
