glatt - Listen to them & DOOO IT! My family extended has been involved for a long time. My Uncle has the job you are describing. He recently completed his 100th house or something like that. Mucho respect. You'll meet people in fields that you'd never meet otherwise. And as Jim said, you'll learn skillzzzzz.
I have helped on homes before Dan's accident. I hope to do so again with him. All in all, it turns out to be a TON of fun.

I've helped on 3 houses, so I know the job. That's part of what makes me nervous.

Sounds like there are a lot of benefits, but listen to you anxiety. Only you know what it is telling you.

yeah. be ruled by your trepidation and anxiety. that's not completely chicken shit.

you know you're not a risk taker. you know you can do this. You wouldn't be considering it if you didn't think you could. You'll just be uncomfortable at first. This is like public speaking. scary. eek! and then after 5 minutes of speaking, you're all good, and you get a rush.

ask that comedian.... what's her name? she does open mic night

So if he decides that it's not a good fit for him, he's a chicken shit?

no, actually I was saying that your advice was chicken shit.

If he decides that it's not a good fit is different than 'listening to your anxiety' ... that's retarded

yeah. I've been thinking about it and I'm going to do it. It's the perfect opportunity to work on a weakness I have. Especially because he'd take me under his wing this year, and I'd take over next year. I've been a worker bee on these things for 3 years, and being the boss would be good for me.

I don't get challenged much at work and I've gotten really comfortable hiding in my office. It will be good for me, even though bossing 40 people around on a job site kinda freaks me out. I'll have time to get ready.

There is a reason people like you were put on this earth. When you get really stressed out (which I don't think you will) come and vent here!

Yay!

listening to his anxiety is different than being ruled by his trepidation and anxiety. you put those words in her mouth. that's not chicken shit, it's just reading what you want to read.

being aware of one's limitations, weaknesses, areas that require improvement, etc, that's not being chicken shit. it's being self aware, something glatt's got in spades. I sincerely doubt he's capable of making such a move without considering his anxieties. only you suggested that listening to them was the same as being ruled by them.

It's funny. I opened this thread with the intent of apologizing to Pico. I'm sure she just meant to comfort or reassure glatt if he didn't want to take on this challenge. Or whatever.

And I do apologize. I was rude. I meant what my point stated, but I didn't have to be a prick about it.

I actually came back to thank Pico and Me myself. She was supporting me and I appreciate it. I should have said so sooner.
