I was following along calling to her, but not close enough to do anything but watch when the truck came around the corner
A 10 foot lead. If she's escaping the yard it might be worth tethering her even when in there.

And a clicker. Call and click. Draw the dog back gently, praising all the way. Award treat.
It's time intensive training, but worked on my friend's out-of-control Labrador. He ended up trained to come when called, but last time we were in contact he still had to be watched around other dogs or wildlife as he simply got too distracted to care.

Labs are greedy though, so training may have been easier.
But I bet if you try you'll find a treat she can't resist. Could be sausage, a scrap of bacon, I know a dog whose weakness was anchovy paste (!)

Final word - she's definitely not deaf?
I don't mean that as an insult, it's a genuine question.
My ex housemate thought my boys were deaf because they didn't come when he called them. Sorry mate, just picky

Mom, you may think I'm weaned but if you step on my tail again I'll bite you where it really hurts.

How did that happen zypp? The dog just walk up to your door and ask for her pup back?

You can't keep it? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Yeah, really Nirvana,

I would tell the dog that once bitten twice shy and she can't have the pup back and to take her tempting milk supply and go away.

Have you seen dis kitteh?

My kitty Ivan is missing! Squeezed out of the front window and pushed out the screen Friday night. Bad indoor kitty! I've walked around calling him, and even took my other cat out with me on a leash to look for him. If he doesn't come back by tomorrow I guess I'll be putting up posters.

the best case scenario is that he'll come back in a day or two tired, hungry, and smug.

I'm trying not to think of the worst case scenario.

Great picture cloud, I forgot to say that before...

Keep looking, he could be scared and hiding. We looked all over the neighborhood for Bunyip once, found him in the garage scared shitless.
