Oct 5, 2018: Ear Spring Geyser blows out old trash
Yellowstone's Ear Spring geyser doesn't erupt very often; its boiling hot water is said to rise a few feet once or twice a decade. Last month it experienced a more severe blowout, water and rocks reaching 20-30 feet in height. Apparently this was the biggest eruption in sixty years; and a few days later, park employees found this stuff... garbage from the past. Garbage, probably thrown into the geyser by tourists. But a lot of it is OLD garbage, from people who have probably died since, and thus are unable to be shamed on various social media for their actions. Amongst the items is a pacifier from the 1930s, pre-pop-top cans, a heel off someone's shoe, and many old coins. The Park says they will be inventoried by curators and kept in their archives. People, don't throw things in the geysers! Especially your old cinder blocks. |

The coins were probably derived from people using the geyser as a wishing well. Lots of good luck there.

That probably explains the beer cans along my road as well.

The book "Death in Yellowstone" 2nd edition by Lee Whittlesey documents that stupid has been consistent in the park since before it was formally named as a national park. It is surprising that anyone survives long enough to reproduce.
