A Brain based on Ego - and contempt for Trade

At the cost of destroying jobs elsewhere, tariffs would save some jobs in steel—but only temporarily. Tariffs would do nothing to solve the industry's structural problems. American steel is really two industries: a group of low-cost, non-unionised mini-mills and an array of unionised, capital- and labour-intensive integrated steel producers. Mini-mills have been doing well: their share of the market has quintupled over the past 25 years. But the integrated dinosaurs, hobbled by high production costs, are horribly uncompetitive and have remained so despite (or more likely because of) a long history of protection. The only rational long-term solution is to allow most of them to go bankrupt.

You would think anyone with minimal intelligence would have basic economic knowledge to understand this. And learned from the resulting massive job destruction created by this mistake by George Jr.

Today, The Donald announced same stupidity. He has decided to protect anti-innovation (anti-American) steel dinosaurs a the expensive of steel reprocessors and other steel dependent industries.

We know the Donald hates trade. And we know he lies repeatedly to people who then believe his lies.

Anyone can learn what is and will happen. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Those are the wackos who voted for and love the Donald.

He's just protecting the status quo at the steel mills while he drains the swamp.

It's retaliation for Obama bailing out the auto industry.

Is he building a drain in the White House?

If that pipe is steel or aluminum, it will cost much more. No problem. Trump's agenda is a massive increase in our debts (while, as usual, enriching himself).

The guy never ran a successful company. But he knows how to enrich himself while screwing over everyone else. Victims will include the metal reprocessors - a productive part of America's economy.

Only two Presidents who were business school gradates are George Jr and The Donald. We already know that George Jr is considered the worst president in the past 100 years with a 28% rating. The Donald is the only other business school graduate. He is vying to replace George Jr at the bottom of that list.

From the Washington Post of 6 Mar 2018:

Quote:
Business Gary Cohn, Trump's top economic adviser, to resign amid differences on trade policy
Gary Cohn, the White House's top economic adviser, announced Tuesday he was leaving the administration amid a major internal clash over President Trump's sharp and sudden pivot toward protectionist trade policies.

... his departure as National Economic Council director leaves the White House without a financial heavyweight ...

Cohn's resignation announcement is the latest jolt to a White House that has been ... unable to retain its top talent. Last week, communications director Hope Hicks and deputy communications director Josh Raffel announced their resignations.

In February, staff secretary Rob Porter was forced out over domestic abuse allegations. And the year began with the departures of deputy national security adviser Dina Powell as well as Cohn’s deputy on the National Economic Council, Jeremy Katz. ...

In the past week, Trump has said he will impose tariffs that hit imports from Canada, Germany, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Turkey, South Korea, and a range of other countries, threatening to escalate the penalties if any nation dare to retaliate. ...

Trump went on to argue that his White House is a talent magnet, even though chief of staff John F. Kelly has struggled to recruit experienced candidates for top-level jobs in the administration.
Trump cannot keep people long enough to do what he does best. "You're fired."
