Many folks here with a Catholic upbringing probably remember the special joy of the "Advent Calendar."

It was a light cardboard calendar, with little windows labelled with the days of December leading up to Christmas. Each day you would open the appropriate window, revealing a picture. What each day held varied based on the style of calendar. Some were religious scenes, stained glass windows, or the more secular versions gave us visions of sugarplums, candy canes, and hard-working elves. There have even been re-usable wooden versions that have spaces for tree ornaments, small toys, and candies.

This year, the Advent Calendar moves into the 21st Century.

Gentlemen, for your perusal and enjoyment.

First, thanks!!

Second, what's behind all the other little windows, I wonder? As for me, I never got past 01 Dec.

very, very cool!

Thanks for that one.

I've been playing with a lot of the games where you shoot at things.

Go figure.

Speechless

I was doing some surfing when I hit upon this artist's site of animal portraits done in the style of great masters.

I was considering linking to some images, but I would need an IP lawyer to tell me what the current law is in this situation.

Just for grins, here's the webcomics I visit each day:

The best of the lot, in my mind, are Achewood and Questionable Content.
Did you notice that the December 9th "questionable content" contains the following conversation -

Quote:
"How was the show you went to last night?"
It was awesome . The lead guitarist from God Forbid bled on me! I almost fainted, it was so f***in' rad.
In the authors notes next to the comic, there was a reference to the recent shooting of a lead guitarist, but I get the impression from the comic that it was made prior to the incident and that it merely joked about the use of dangerous musical instruments.

Even more nostalgia ... A friend of mine just sent me a link to The Original Colossal Caves Adventure.

I wonder what the TINP kids would think about it? Probably not obscure enough to satisfy them.

I have no love for cheerleaders or cheerleading, but this is just completely fucking funny.

Click on "Cheerleader Toss".

View the little movie first. This explains how the game is played. Please note the girl rubbing her head in pain. Then click on The Game.

The "dumpster" shot is out the window.

Sound is not strictly necessary, but will enhance the overall experience.

The injured cheerleader's comments are quite amusing.
