Ali, it's good to know that there are parents like you around. That was a really touching post

Thanks Limey. It was from the heart. I've been thinking about them a lot lately and how this might very well be the last summer holidays we all get to spend together. This year is Aden's last year of high school, and if he ends up going to uni elsewhere, he'll be getting himself organised and moving away during the next holidays. It makes me a little teary just thinking about it to be honest. I know I need to cut the umbilical cord, but geez, the years go by so quickly.

Actually I tried to explain this to Mav just yesterday. He's crazy in love with his g/f which is fine. she's lovely, and if they end up together forever that'll be fine but as I put it to him, I get him for probably 20 years tops. If they play their cards right and are lucky in their health, they'll have probably 60 or more years together, so right now, if I say I want to be with him, then that's how he has to see it. On top of that, his brother(s) but mostly Aden, miss him a lot when he's off with Katie and I think Aden realises he'll be gone one way or another soon and just wants to do brother stuff with him. They've always been close and they seem to be staying close as they mature which is a joy for me to behold.

Anyway, I think that's enough rum for me tonight. lol I'm a big sook.

Mine are still both here and I'm savoring this time. It will be over soon enough. Only a few more years and they will be off.

yeah, I'm feeling a bit blue coz the boys are both gone and I didn't have enough time for them when they were little. I worked, went to school, played housewife and drudge to a man who left me at home to take care of two under two while he went to the Dead concerts in Atlanta. So, I missed the best times with them with all my drama.

Now one is in columbus and one in cincinnati. Both v. busy.

And for the first time in a long time I feel the bite of 'alone'.

i'll get over it.

look! The sun is out! for reels!

Awww...sorry if i dredged sad thoughts up for you Tril. Maybe you should spend some time writing a snail mail letter to each of them telling them in long form what you just said here and tried to make light of? If they're anything like my boys, it will mean the world to them. Xx

that's a good idea, Ali.

And you didn't dredge up bad feelings....they're already there! I've plenty to feel guilty about in the parenting business but both boys turned out stellar, so it's all good.

just it's JANUARY you know? No, you don't coz the sun is shining and it's warm and beautiful in Oz just now. Over here we're freezing our butts off.

Thanks Pete. I've tried and failed in some things, but succeeded in others. Just like the rest of us I guess.

Tril, January has always been like this here.

hmmm...where's that cold drink...and my sunscreen...and my hat!

Yabbut...

January means more sunshine every day. It is winter but spring is officially on the way. I actually cast a shadow today during a walk. It was cold but clear. Briefly. Then clouds again now darkness. But less darkness than yesterday.

Ali haveing kids that you like to hang with and enjoy hanging with you is a testament to how they were raised ,

Just wait for the time when you all are sitting around a camp fire with beers and the storys you didnt know about come out .

" oh thats why he wasnt around any more , when does he get out ??"
"Oh so Thats how the hole appeared in the wall "
etc,,,,,,,,,
