Friend's neighbor's pooch. His name is Big Johnson. (the dog, not the neighbor) I laugh a little bit to myself every time I call his name (the dog's, not the neighbor's).

Oh! Oh he's gorgeous!

Look at that handsome face ... the wrinkled brow gives him such gravitas lol. I still want to kiss him on the nose though.

Ball, get the ball! Ball, WTF is a ball? After about 2 minutes.

Only way I can get anything done in yard is to turn Sheila loose and put her on wire run.
Perhaps I should have just got married again or adopted a crack baby?
Advice wanted? Here it comes anyway.

If you want to teach that dog to come to you it must be a positive experience. At Wal Mart they sell 20 ft leads. Whenever she is out with you have that lead on. Have a pocket full of treats. When you call Buddy to you only say the name once and if they do not come you pick up the lead and reel them in saying puppy puppy puppy, and then give them a bunch of treats. Let them loose to get interested in something else and repeat.

Never leave the lead on when you are not there. Never call the dog unless you have the lead on and are able to reel them in. Repeat as many times a day as you want if you practice your part of this skill your dog will learn it. Coming to you should always be a good experience. Never call a dog to you and punish them. They will never come to you.

That pretty much corresponds with all the advice I've ever been given on dog training. Now, if only I'd consistently taken said advice, I'd probably not have a maniac for a dog :P

Nirvana Thanks. I never punish, maybe if caught in the act. Need to spend more time w/BUddy, but spring has sprung. I'm so far behind in yard work and garden. She's staying around Shelia when loose, but still have to keep an eye out.

I bet you are a good dog trainer. Does Pilau know how to shake paws? Teach him how to high five!

Oh he high fives on command. Waits when told, even when a biscuit is sitting between his paws.

He is wonderfully well trained indoors (except for the going mental at the postman etc). Outdoors less so :P

To this day I am convinced that had I been allowed to just train him my way, we'd all have been happy and fine ... I had a partner at the time (Pilau's 'Daddy') who had slightly different ideas. Nothing worse than two people training a dog!

*chuckles*

Actually, i pronounce 'Pilau' both ways depending on context. I think 'Pi llow' is a lazy northern pronunciation lol. Pee low is probably more 'correct'. I tend to use peelow when referring to the rice, and Pi llow when talking to Pil. But even then i jump between the two at times.

I know you're no dog person. But Pilau knows you still love him *grins* Stands to reason. He knows everyone loves him. On account of him being a Good Dog.
