It's not up to the President to come to him. Gorsuch should have took the hint when Trump first gave him a gentle tug by taking a step towards the President's side to close the distance and then squarely face the President to shake hands. When he didn't, Trump probably went on the defensive thinking the guy was being standoffish; or, manipulative and Trump gave him something to remember that mistake by.

I think Gorsuch probably just got bit overwhelmed and protocol escaped him for a moment. Trump could have been more understanding and motioned for Gorsuch to come closer before extending his hand. If something like that happens with another world leader, I would hope Trump keeps his arms at his side and leaves them just standing there with their arm extended.
Gorsuch is a free citizen not a slave to be cowed by some made up protocol. I'm starting to understand why the right hated Obama's manner so much. We can't have a President showing respect to people, it looks too democratic.

Then you can go into work on Monday and tell your boss off 'cause you're a free citizen, not a slave to be cowed by some made up protocol.

Body language is still language except to the blind.

My boss and I have very open conversations. She gets the final say because that's her job. The right makes the mistake of thinking of the President in military terms first. That is a slaves attitude.

I see you've got a trolling motor. That's about your speed. Come back when you can handle an inboard.
