How come the Remington action is silky smooth and the Savage action is not?

I'm guessing it is tolerances. The bolt on a Savage will stick if it is closed slightly cock-eyed.

How about real answers?

A Savage will slick up nicely with a little honing/lapping. Savage's generally have better out of box accuracy than Remingtons. That being said, my bean field gun is a Remington 700 in .300 WSM.

Off topic, but the very best rifles I have ever used were Jarrets. They even develop the perfect load for your rifle & reload for you.

I think the Remington Smooth and Silky is more 'modern' and takes into account little slips and stuff that could lead to bloodletting.

The Savage Razor is your more traditional straight razor. I suppose you could get pretty smooth but I don't know if it offers the 'silky' that those little gel strips on the newer razors can give you.

Imagine my glee when I found there actually was a razor with Savage in the name! Otherwise the whole thought process would have been for naught.

For the price of a Jarret, they better damn well come to my woods and shoot and field dress my deer for me.

I bet they are fine rifles, though.

Brilliant.

A razor wit, that one.

Like asking what is better, Salma Hayek or Jessica Alba naked on your couch. Holding 2 Guinness'.

I don't open this site for 3 months and this is the first thing I see... Cool thread.

I don't know about any roughness, I have only fired it once. My .300 Savage lever-action w/internal mag was built before I was born ('69), or shortly thereafter, and I was also told never to sell it. My Dad has it and will hand it to me when he goes to the big Barrett testing range in the sky, but it's mine in spirit since my brother barfs at the sight of a dead deer, let alone try to shoot it.

Sweet, sweet gun.

Sorry foot, really. I know you specified real answers, but it was too serendipitous to let by. So sorry. I can't help myself.
