No Photos From Me For A While

Yes, this should go in the What's Upsetting You thread, but it's just too upsetting for me not to make a big song and dance about it.
My camera isn't working

I broke it. At least I assume that's what happened. I went out during the day yesterday and took quite a few photos. I was fiddling about with it when I got back and somehow realised I had put the battery back in the wrong way. That's why I couldn't close it properly. And since then it hasn't worked.

ARGH!
I really cannot justify buying a new one.
I mean, I really can't. It's a pure luxury item.
But it is a luxury item that I use at least once a week, so I will miss horribly. And the belief that I broke it myself just makes things worse.

Obviously I am only posting here for extreme sympathy.
But I am in need of it.

A Kodak M1072 (IS) 10.2 mega pixels.
In pink.

It's outdated now of course, but I was happy with it.

I'm so sorry. That is the suck of life, isn't it: losing a cherished
thing that brings some joy.

Hugs, sweetish

PS if it helps I was lectured to this morning by my dad!

It's great that someone bought you a new camera, but did you take the old camera to someone who knows about them to see if it really is bust or something easy to resolve? More often than not, in my experience, they turn out to be pretty simple to fix or even resolve themselves.

BTW cellar, I need a new minivan........

Probably worth doing that anyway. No harm in having a spare about the place if it can be fixed. Though my experience with compact digitals is the exact opposite: they break over some minor mishandling and repairs cost the same as the purchase price or more. Granted most of my experience of this comes from when I broke my camera whilst twisting round to try and photograph my arse...

And it's not really a donation, so much as combination belated Christmas/early birthday pressie.

Life was better when things could be fixed, wasn't it? Can't remember the last time I saw a TV repairman ... then again, the last time I saw one, he was a second or third cousin, or something, and only charged my mom for parts, no labor.

Was gonna suggest eBay, Sundae. My Kodak MD41 goes for as little as $15. 12.1 mp, reasonable capabilities for price/size, good macro function...

It's possible the problem could actually be the battery. Do you have a spare to try? What happens if you try to charge it?

Oh gawd yes, professional repairs are not worthwhile in the main. But I really did mean someone who knows about cameras. An aquaintance who has a few would be ideal. We have found taking the memory card out overnight has worked. Just using a different set of batteries.... stupid things but they worked. Digital Cameras are such Divas!

Yeah, for digital ... remove battery and memory card, leave for a day, put mem card and new battery in, press ON, wait half an hour.

I'd give it a 25% chance of working.
