A Falcon in my neighborhood

Not just any Falcon mind you...2 Australian Ford Falcons from the '70s, just around the corner from my house. They've fascinated me since I first saw them a few months ago.

Learn more about these cars here.

Wow - cool find syc!

The white one is an XB circa 1976. 4.9L 302 V8.

The Blue/White one, I think (I'm a Holden girl, not Ford), is a XB GT '73-76. 5.8L V8...pure muscle cars

Hagar will come and correct me if I am wrong....I'm sure :p

Last edited by DucksNuts; 07-03-2007 at 08:14 PM. Reason: 'coz they are both XB's, XC's had square headlights apparently.

The blue/white one probably has a 302, as it lists it on the car. Of course, the owner may have swapped out engines by now.

In the third pic, behind the white one, you see part of a early 70s Ford Mustang...I don't know if those were ever exported to Australia. I think they look similar to the Falcon, but Wikipedia compares the Falcon to the Ford Torino...I definitely see the similarities there.

Starting in 1971, US cars started losing a lot of their power due to detuned engines (to handle unleaded gas) and emissions controls. Did Australia go through anything similar?

We've had one Holden come to the States recently...the Monaro was sold as the Pontiac GTO. It's a nice car, but shouldn't have been sold as a GTO given the GTO's history. The new Pontiac G8 is based on the same platform as the Commodore, and is being built in Australia to be shipped here. The Chevy Camaro and Impala will also be on the platform, but are going to be built in Canada.

It looks like the white 4-door isn't driven regularly.

The blue and white one has that stuff on the license plate that prevents pictures from being taken, apparently.

I blocked out the license plate number on the blue/white one, as it's a currently registered vehicle here in MO. I know that it's driven regularly, as is the Mustang. I'd like to meet the owner and maybe drive one of them eventually.

OMG...I just had horrid flash backs to my youth.

One of my ex's had a ford coupe just like that one. It was canary yellow with a fat black stripe down the middle.

He thought he was a hero.

He wasn't.

It was a fast car. Bit of a tank in my opinion though.

Yeah - its a 302 Cleveland which is a 5.0L...not the 351 5.8L...my bad

The Pontiac G8 IS a Commodore, which is just the suped up model of my current car.

They were Car of the Year and rightfully so....most awesome handling car I have driven

The new G8 looks sharp (as does the Commodore). The Pontiac G6 (introduced in '04) is starting to do well here, and hopefully that will carry over to the G8. Pontiac has a solid lineup, Chevy is still doing well and Saturn is making a strong comeback...hopefully they will pull GM further out of its funk.

It must have cost someone a freaking fortune to get those cars over here...left hand drive and all!

Boss 402's are a hot motor. Don't see many anymore.

Wow. They're far from home.

The four-door could have any number of engines; (3.3-5.8) the twin pipes suggest a V8, but the hardtop looks interesting. They're going for stupidly high prices at the moment. It's still the Mad Max factor, I think!
