Chewing Gum

Wrigley has been selling chewing gum since 1891.
Wiki says...
Quote:
The company currently sells its products in more than 180 countries and districts, maintains operations in over 50 countries, and has 21 production facilities in 14 countries including the United States, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom, France, the Czech Republic, Poland, Russia, China, India, Japan, Kenya, Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand.
I would assume they know their shit by now. In the supermarket are plastic bags labeled 54 pieces containing three boxes of 18 pieces. Each 18 piece box contains two bubble-paks of 9 pieces each. On a bubble-pak there are two rows of five but they only need 9 so one goes to waste. Why?

Why would the not use that spot to make it 10, 20, 60? Like I said they ought to know their shit by now but this seems dumb. Am I the only one to wonder why? Maybe not, so that's why they clearly label the quantity at each step.

I will say this... When I'm popping out an early piece of my gum (which does come 10 to a pack,) the pressure I have to exert to force it through the foil often breaks the seal on a second or even third piece of gum. It's possible that if I had a solid place to put my other thumb, that wouldn't happen. But really, it's probably just about the money. That's why there's a big divot in the bottom of your peanut butter jar--it translates to real savings on their part.

These pop out real easy, the foil is very thin.

It's for the psychological effect of making you think you're missing something. That creates anxiety, which chewing gum can help alleviate. So you buy more gum and their sales go up.

Quote:
3. Chewing gum helps to release nervous energy and combat stress and anxiety

Psychologists have for years known that chewing gum helps to ease tension and release nervous energy by reducing the stress hormone cortisol in the body. When you chomp on a stick of gum in emotionally charged situations, you are likely to feel calmer and more alert. Actually, chewing gum can be a good substitute for nervous habits like leg-shaking or nail-biting when you’re feeling anxious.
The catchy jingles used in gum advertising, that play over and over again in your head, make you think you've an excess of something and go towards the same end.

10. Chewing gum helps treat earworms

Earworms are incredibly common—90% of us are victims of the earworm at least once a week. An earworm is a catchy piece of music that gets stuck in our heads and no matter what we do, we can’t seem to dislodge it. While earworms are not harmful, they can be really distracting and totally unpleasant sometimes. Most of us are helpless against them, and just suffer through it. But, you don’t have to suffer through it. Researchers at the University of Reading, UK have identified a cure for earworms. The best way to treat earworms is to chew gum. Now that is something to chew on!
It's all about mind control. Happy chewing!

If you're eating it, you're doing it (and spelling it )wrong.

I recently got a gift box of candy and in it was the familiar Topps package.
It used to be bubble gum and baseball cards, but neither in this Topps package.
There was eight cards 2.5" x 3.5" and about the thickness of a baseball card.
Each one had a peel off sticker a kid can stick on the bike, notebook or sibling.
I'd be glad to tell Topps where to stick them.
