I'm gonna start calling LJ "Jimmylegs" after a character in a story that that guy who wrote Moby Dick wrote.

Anyhoo---it WAS Melville who wrote that. The Dick story, I mean. Plus the other one with Jimmylegs in it--Billy Budd I thunk it was called.

I've heard it both ways (with and without the final T pronounced). FWIW there is some evidence (including second-hand reports of how Puccini himself said it) that that last letter is silent. My guess is, knowing opera fans, you're likely to start an argument either way.
