"Transgender in America" on Melissa Harris-Perry

Quote:
Joining Melissa Harris-Perry are author Kate Bornstein, Mara Keisling, executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, and Mel Wymore, a Democratic candidate for the New York City Council, as they discuss gender identity and discrimination against the LGBT community.

Unbelievably good round-table discussion of trans* issues on Melissa Harris-Perry last sunday. I really really really think you should all give this a watch, in the States, where it'll let you, at least. It's a really really great 20 minute primer on how to deal with, talk about, and otherwise understand trans* issues. Auntie Kate is in impeccable form, and does her best to speak out for the non-binary and the "gender outlaws" and everyone, queer and otherwise, who doesn't fit into society's rules.

I'm slightly annoyed I can't watch here in Blighty. Looks kind of interesting. I like round table discussions when done well.

Great, now in an effort to stem the tide of bullying of G-B-TG students the Obama Admin embarrassed a completely fucked up organization of bullies who attacked people with Christian beliefs. The Obama Admin owns this one big time. Shame on them.

Wait, what? I don't know if I'm misreading you, but I don't think that parsed sensically for me. Can you rephrase, or at least direct us to some sort of news article talking about what you're referencing? Who did Obama embarrass? who are the bullies? what does the administration own? shame on who?

Follow the links. This Administration has embraced Dan Savage and his organization. He will for ever be linked to his actions at the National Journalism Conference and his attack and bullying of the teenage students there. The Obama Administration has embraced him and his organization. What hypocrisy.

That's horseshit, Savage didn't bully anyone, I suggest you watch his speech. He was saying it's not legit to use the Bible to condemn queers, when at the same time ignoring all the other things the Bible condemns/prohibits.
Some of the kids walked out because they didn't want to hear that.
These are future journalists? Journalists don't walk out because the don't like the message.

Just when I think I can't love you any more Bruce...

I consider everything you write because we do not share a political or world view.
I'm happy to challenge my bias when it is questioned by someone I respect. But it's a balm when I find I have the same opinion automatically.

Dan Savage is a raging cunt, and yeah, fuck him with a rusty nailboard, but he's not a bully and he's not some dooming albatross you can hang around obama's neck. He's gotten SLIGHTLY better about not spewing transphobic bullshit all over the place in the past couple years, but I still hate the guy. There's still no way I could possibly construe him as anything but a powerful and positive ally for the GAY community (if not the broader queer community).
You're getting desperate, merc, and it's really unbecoming. You used to at least make sense occasionally.

I did, over and over from many sources. That is a total bullshit statement. This mother fuck cannot claim to be against one group of bullies while he bullies another. He has been outed. He had no respect for the thoughts and feelings of teenagers in his audience. He berated them. He attacked them for their beliefs. You cannot hold yourself up as a champion for a cause against one group while you attack another. He has been exposed. And because the Obama Administration has embraced him, they are complacent.

Heh, and I am not even religious but I see through the attacks this fool has made. I could give a shit about your affiliations or religious beliefs, but you cannot bully and vilify one group to prop up another cause. FAIL.

Typical rightwing bullshit spin. That wasn't bullying by any definition. But it's an emotive word. One you can't even use in schools unless you have proof that 56 kids held one down while 234 others beat her. You (pl) use it inappropriately like you use socialist and muslime to scare stupid people. And yes, I'm lumping you with the rest of the righty ridiculodes. That's where you belong, regardless of your Trojan Horse claims of impartiality. You're full of crap and will do or say anything to get a white, male, straight, pro-rich president. Or the closest possible. You only claimed to have nothing agaianst Obama and be willing to give him a go pre 2008 election because you knew he would win and you cannot stand to be on the losing side. NEWSFLASH We're not as stupid as you think we are, we just can't be bothered to tell you so most of the time because we are too PC to draw attention to your being bovinocranially challenged.
